Parts Town — Phoenix Area (Goodyear, AZ) New Distribution Center
BoxLogix designed a tote-based picking, packing and shipping system for Parts Town’s new Phoenix-area DC. The solution blends pedestrian and G2P picking, transports picks in totes, and introduces batch picking for single-unit orders to boost picker output and reduce system load for growth. Packing is modernized with weigh-in-motion, in-line dimensioning and automated print-and-apply, feeding a sorter and future truck-loader option. The conveyor core is a low-noise, easy-to-maintain MDR platform with planned spiral redundancy and room to expand.
Highlights
- 427,000 square-foot new distribution center.
- Throughput (target): ~2,455 orders/hour peak
- Daily volume (goal): ~16,421 orders/day
- Handling units: Sealed cartons and totes (single-unit and multi-unit).
- Controls & integration: BoxLogix provided Logix WCS for system control; WMS sends routing to Logix for totes/cartons.
Technologies
- MDR conveyance — accumulation, curves, merges, transfers.
- Spiral conveyors (inclines/declines in tote return paths).
- Flat-Face-Arm sorter at shipping.
- Weigh-in-motion scale with in-line dimensioner.
- Automated print-and-apply (PandA).
- Carton & Tote Chainveyor for carton delivery and empty-tote return.
- Truck Loaders (need to confirm if we actually added this into project)
- Anything else?
Impact
- Faster, more accurate receiving via sortation that keeps multi-carton receipts together.
- Higher pick output and lower system throughput by batch picking single-unit orders.
- Improved conveyor reliability by moving picks in standardized totes.
- Quieter, easier-to-maintain operations with MDR.
- Headroom for growth through a future-expandable design.
